Meanwhile raises $37.5 million to expand bitcoin life cover

Meanwhile has raised $37.5 million from existing investors in a round led by Bain Capital Crypto, giving the bitcoin-denominated life insurer new funding as it expands beyond the U.S. The Bermuda-based company had already offered life insurance with premiums and benefits denominated in bitcoin. In its funding announcement, Meanwhile said the round brings its total raised to more than $180 million; Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures and Morgan Creek Digital also took part.

What does Meanwhile’s bitcoin policy offer?

Its BTC Life 1-Pay policy lets a client pay a single premium in bitcoin for a guaranteed death benefit in bitcoin, according to the company. Launched in early 2026 for high-net-worth clients outside the U.S., it is the insurer’s second product line: BTC 10-Pay was designed for U.S. taxpayers. After the first year, a policy owner can borrow up to 90% of the policy’s value without a repayment schedule or margin calls, the company says.

That structure makes the policy relevant to families planning how to pass bitcoin to beneficiaries. CoinDesk’s report on the round also describes the product as a way to extend bitcoin’s use into inheritance and insurance, beyond investment and trading.

Where is the insurer expanding?

Meanwhile said demand for its policies has grown among clients in Asia, Europe and the Middle East, and that it has signed 15 brokers serving wealthy families since launching BTC Life 1-Pay. The company named Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and Switzerland as insurance hubs where those brokers operate.

The new capital follows that push to build distribution outside the U.S. Meanwhile said it holds a Bermuda Monetary Authority Class IILT license, granted in July 2024, and that its balance sheet, reserves and audited financial statements are denominated in bitcoin. Its announcement did not disclose the round’s valuation or individual investment amounts.
